Category magic plugin for WordPress
Magic! That is what my plugin does. Or at least magic to some. To others, it just gives some neat functionality. For the longest time I used a category plugin over here at zeligplanet. It worked really well, but had a few shortcomings I didn't like. That is what all these plug-ins are about really. There are tons of plug-ins that all do similar things but each a little bit differently.
I wanted my plug-in to be faster, have the option of showing the item count in each category, and show either only empty categories, or all categories. Along with being object oriented, having a cache, and a few other cool features.
Before you go and get your socks all in knot, the plug-in is not ready for public consumption yet, but it is 99% of the way there. This post is more of a testing ground to see if there is any interest at all in my plug-in. If you might be interested in this category plug-in, which contains one very cool little MySQL optimization that seriously speeds up the categories for this purpose (which none of the other category plug-ins I tested seemed to have done), simply leave a comment below. If enough people say they might be interested, I will do my best to get it up here for public consumption before the end of the year.
Note that I only develop for WordPress 2.0 and up and that I work on these plug-ins in my spare time. I have two other companies that keep me rather busy in programming and design. I do though have a Trac repository that I can drop my plugin into for people to check out, try it and then report any problems, improvements etc.
Later this week you will be able to see the plug-in in action on a new site I have been working on in my spare time for the past 6 months. I will post about the new site right here.
Said enough. Gotta run. For those that celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah, I wish you all the best.
