Charge carries possible life sentence

Posted by plattapuss on November 2nd, 2007

November 8th 2007-Update: For those that would like to read more about the death and passing of little Bianka Leduc, you can visit the very well done site of Gigababy. In short, why are people so afraid to show support to the family of the grieving, the family that really needs support now for a long time to come. Yet, people seem to have little trouble showing support for the ones responsible for the accident.

So, there are talks of sending the 18 year old Brandon Pardi--who killed Bianka Leduc--away for life, into a prison system that is already over crowded. Yes, he was neglegent and his stupidity caused the death of a little girl. But sending him away for life is neither going to send a real message to people nor bring back the little girl.

Why won't it send a real message to anyone? In 6 months time virtually no one will remember who Brandon Pardi is, and hence the younger people of today won't be affected in the least.

Perhaps what would make a bigger impact, since they are talking of taking his whole future away anyhow, is to put Brandon to work full time educating people. Keep a short leash on him, but have him work with an organization like MADD, or start a new organization. Place heavy restrictions on him, and have him do something good for society. Putting a person away into our prison system costs the Canadian people $80,000 dollars a year roughly. So take that money and use it to cover expenses for Brandon to spend the rest of his life serving out his sentence to help stop our youth from killing more people.

Brandon can be under permanent curfew, weekly visits to a parole officer, stay at home, no alcohol, never allowed to drive again, but tossing him into prison makes the courts no better than Brandon himself.

Perhaps if society had started getting people who are convicted of neglectful homicide to do community service for life, instead of adding them into the prison system, where they learn to be "prisoners", little Bianka would still be alive today.

I know my thoughts fly in the face of what our society thinks, but I see a strong young person who could actually be put to use. Heck the police say they don't have enough man power to patrol the streets and keep reckless drivers off the streets. So take Brandon and make him educate and help officers patrol the streets, for life.

What happened is tragic. As a Pincourt citizen and mother of a 22 year old who knows Brandon, I was horrified and saddened. It is a double tragedy. My heart goes out to both families, especially the family of the Bianka Leduc. It is sad to see a young life taken away. Brandon however is far from a hardened criminal and a stupid youthful indiscretion has led to the unnecessary death of little Bianka Leduc. Unfortunately all youth think it will never happen to them and speed without thinking of the consequences.
I think a life prison term is way too harsh especially when you look at what drunk drivers get away with. To not serve any time however would not send a message at all. There is a price to pay for taking a life even if it was accidental. I think also doing community service to educate young people would be very good. Kids listen to their peers. My son is very shaken by this event as it really hits close to home so he will always remember and perhaps drive more cautiously. Others young people not as close will forget..

There is no police presence here on the island side streets. People speed here all the time. It is too bad that it takes a tragedy like this to get politicians to look at something that could have been preventable.

I think this whole situation is so sad for everyone – especially the family of Bianka.
Education is a great way to attack this issue! There are far too many roads, too large of a territory and too few officers to patrol.
That said, MADD West Island is welcoming all those people who wish to help and volunteer their time(no impaired driving records please).

This horrible tragedy is a sign of our time. In 1980 my brother lost his life to 2 young male drivers one 16 the other 18 who were racing at over 100 mph on Laurentien blvd.(today blvd. Marcel Laurin). Both were charged and convicted of criminal negligence. They lost their drivers licence for 6 months and fined 500.00$. Justice was served. In 2007 we still have to deal with this problem. Why? Because regardless of how we educate and sensitize a society bad things happen..and often times to good people. Today I see working mothers and fathers rush to get their kid to the daycare often failing to respect the trafic signals (stops, lights speed limits etc) young drivers speeding in a residential neighborhoods and drivers taking the wheel intoxicated. With over 4 million cars on our roads the result is over 700 deaths from car accidents in Quebec. Life is a game of chance. Some people cheat and live forever. Others like Bianca and my brother are struck down before they can begin to play. As for Brandon he should have his license revoked indefinately, serve a jail sentence( he broke the law) and try to reach those few deaf ears that we parents can’t seem to attain. I admit not all youth is irresponsible. If Bianca’s life can change some of our behavior patterns then fewer families will have to deal with the trauma of burying a loved one.

Can’t agree with you more Sam. The only part that gets me is sending Brandon to jail when his time could be spent doing something more useful. I am not in any way saying he should not be punished for what he did. He broke the law, absolutely!

What is the reason to put someone in Jail? The reason is to teach them a lesson and keep society safe why they are learning that lesson, in hopes when they get out, they won’t do a repeat. In this case, he can be kept from driving under the right conditions. He can learn his lesson by going out and saying “I killed a little girl because I was stupid and reckless, this is what I have to live with, and my family has to live with, and all my friends have to live with, for the rest of our lives.” Make his sentence a punishment but let society get something out of it too. Then maybe, just maybe, another little girl or boy can not get killed by someone rushing around in their car.

What happend was very hard on alot of people in our towns, i am 19 years old and i know the pardi family, and i know the sons quite well, and brandon is a good kid who had some bad luck, yes we lost a young one, and unfortunatly we wont be able to bring her back, and i agree witht he article, putting brandon away for life is pointless, all they will be doing is hurting more families then needed, I think he and his friends have learned some sort of a lesson, i know i have. A lisence is a privilage. and once you lose it, i dont think we should get it back, weather its drunk driving, reckless driving..or whatever. I Didnt drive slow…now after seeing what both families are going through, speed and thrill isnt worth a life ending. Brandons life started and ended all in the same day, If we had more cops around, it wouldnt of happend..as for the driving age gooing to 21..i dont totally disagree…i wish all the best for the family who lost there child, and i hope a good decison is made for brandon, a good lesson is to learn…not to be put in a jail where he might not be able to survive in… Imagine putting him in a jail with people who commited really bad crimes, and it wouldnt be fair! anyhow, alot of yo umight not agree wiht me, but its my opinion…But remember this could of all been prevented if we had mroe police around pincourt ile perrot and vaudreuil.
